1. Your agreement with us
Eko International Market ("EKO", "we", "us") operates a multi-vendor marketplace connecting independent Nigerian vendors with shoppers in Nigeria and the diaspora. When you use the site, you enter into a contract with EKO for the platform itself, and a separate sale contract with the relevant vendor for each order.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please don’t use the marketplace.
2. Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- Keep your login credentials secure — you’re responsible for activity that happens under your account.
- Provide accurate information. Misrepresenting your identity, location, or shipping details may result in cancelled orders or a closed account.
- You can close your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms.
3. Buying on EKO
Each listing is offered by an independent vendor. EKO facilitates the transaction, processes payment, and protects you with the EKO Buyer Protection guarantee, but the vendor is the seller of record for the item itself.
When you place an order, you’re making an offer to buy. The contract is formed once the vendor accepts the order — usually shown as "Confirmed" in your account. If a vendor cannot fulfil an order (out of stock, listing error, etc.) we will refund you in full.
4. Pricing & payments
- All prices are shown in Nigerian Naira (₦) by default. We display approximate conversions for other currencies; the exact charge depends on your card or payment provider.
- Payments are processed securely via Stripe. We never store your full card details.
- Vendors set their own prices. We may run platform-wide promotions or discount codes from time to time — terms are shown at checkout.
- Customs duties, import VAT, and similar taxes for international orders are the responsibility of the buyer unless explicitly noted in the listing.
5. Help Centre — common questions
The fastest way to reach us is the contact form. Most questions are answered below.
How do I track my order?
Sign in and visit My Orders. Each order shows real-time status, the carrier, and a tracking link once the vendor hands it over to dispatch.
Is my payment secure?
Yes. Payments are processed through Stripe with PCI-DSS Level 1 security. We never see or store your full card details.
Can I change my order after it’s placed?
Edits are possible only while the order is still 'Pending'. Once a vendor confirms it, contact the vendor directly through the order page or reach out via our contact form and we’ll relay the request.
How do I become a vendor?
Apply at Become a Vendor. Most applications are reviewed within 2–3 business days.
My item arrived damaged or doesn’t match the listing — what now?
Open a dispute from the order page within 7 days of delivery. See the Returns & Refunds section below for the full process.
6. Shipping & delivery
Shipping options, costs, and timelines depend on the vendor’s location, your delivery address, and the item’s weight class. We work with multiple carriers and show available options at checkout.
Delivery timelines
- Within Lagos: 1–3 business days from dispatch.
- Other Nigerian states: 3–7 business days from dispatch.
- Diaspora (UK, US, Canada, EU): 7–14 business days, depending on customs.
Vendors typically dispatch within 1–2 business days of order confirmation. Some handmade or made-to-order items have a longer lead time, which is shown on the product page.
Customs, duties & import VAT
For international orders, the recipient is responsible for any customs duties, import VAT, and clearance fees levied by their local authority. These are not included in the price shown at checkout.
Restricted destinations
Some items (perishable foods, liquids, organic ingredients) cannot ship to certain countries due to import restrictions. Restrictions are flagged at checkout and the order will be blocked rather than shipped if a destination is unsupported.
Lost or delayed shipments
If your tracking hasn’t updated for 7+ days, or the package is overdue by more than a week, contact us. We’ll work with the vendor and carrier to locate it or issue a refund.
7. Returns & refunds
We want every purchase to feel right. The EKO Buyer Protection guarantee covers you in the cases below.
When you can return
- The item arrived damaged, defective, or significantly different from the listing — full refund or replacement.
- The item never arrived after the expected delivery window — full refund.
- You changed your mind on a non-perishable, unopened item — return within 14 days for a refund minus the return shipping cost. Some vendors offer free returns; this is shown on the product page.
Non-returnable items
- Perishable food, fresh produce, and opened consumables.
- Custom or made-to-order items, unless they arrive defective.
- Personal-care products that have been opened or used, for hygiene reasons.
- Digital products and gift cards.
How to start a return
- Open My Orders and select the order.
- Click "Open dispute" and choose a reason.
- Add photos or a short description of the issue. The vendor has 3 business days to respond.
- If we can’t resolve it directly, EKO support steps in and decides the outcome within a further 3 business days.
Refund timing
Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5–10 business days. Bank processing time depends on your card issuer.
8. Vendor terms
Vendors agree to additional terms during onboarding, including listing accuracy, tax compliance, and order-fulfilment SLAs. Repeated breaches (late dispatch, fake inventory, counterfeit items) may result in suspension or removal.
EKO charges a commission on each sale, disclosed during application and visible in the vendor dashboard. Payouts are made on a regular schedule once the buyer protection window has closed.
9. Prohibited use
- Listing counterfeit goods or items you don’t have the right to sell.
- Using the platform to scam, harass, or transact outside EKO to bypass buyer protection.
- Scraping, automated abuse, or attacks against the marketplace.
- Posting illegal, hateful, or fraudulent content.
10. Liability & disputes
EKO provides the marketplace "as is". We work hard to keep listings accurate and shipments on time, but to the maximum extent allowed by law our liability for any single order is limited to the value of that order. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything that can’t lawfully be excluded.
If a dispute can’t be resolved through our support process, you and EKO agree to attempt good-faith mediation before escalating to court.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Where local consumer law in your country of residence grants you stronger rights, those continue to apply.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time — for new features, regulatory changes, or to clarify wording. Material changes will be announced by email and on the marketplace at least 14 days before they take effect.
