Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data Eko International Market collects when you use the marketplace, how we use it, and the choices you have. Last updated: 1 May 2026.

1. Introduction

Eko International Market ("EKO", "we", "us") is the data controller for personal information processed through the marketplace. We’re committed to handling your data responsibly and only as needed to run the service.

2. What we collect

We collect three categories of data:

Information you give us

  • Account details: name, email, phone number, password.
  • Shipping and billing addresses.
  • Order details, messages with vendors, and reviews you post.
  • For vendors: business name, RC number, NIN, bank details, and verification documents.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and browser information, IP address, and approximate location (derived from IP).
  • Pages you view, search queries, and clicks within the marketplace.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — see the Cookies section below.

Information from third parties

  • Payment confirmations and fraud signals from our payment processor (Stripe).
  • Identity verification results from our KYC partner (Prembly) — used for vendor onboarding only.
  • Authentication signals if you sign in with a third-party account (e.g. Google).

3. How we use it

  • To create and manage your account, and process your orders.
  • To facilitate communication between buyers and vendors and to resolve disputes.
  • To review product inquiry conversations when handling disputes, abuse reports, or support issues. That admin access is logged.
  • To prevent fraud, abuse, and counterfeit listings — including device-level signals.
  • To send transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, password resets).
  • To send marketing emails — only if you’ve opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email.
  • To improve the marketplace through analytics, A/B testing, and product research.
  • To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

4. Who we share it with

We share data only when we need to, with these categories of recipients:

  • Vendors: when you place an order, the vendor sees your name, shipping address, and order contents — only what’s needed to fulfil the order.
  • Logistics partners: shipping carriers receive the address and contact details required for delivery.
  • Payment processor: Stripe processes payments and stores card details on its PCI-DSS-certified infrastructure.
  • Service providers: hosting (Firebase / Google Cloud), email delivery, analytics, and KYC verification — all under contract to use your data only for our purposes.
  • Legal & regulatory: when required to comply with a valid legal request, prevent fraud, or protect rights and safety.

We do not sell your personal data, and we don’t share it with third-party advertisers for their own marketing purposes.

5. Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in and remember your cart.
  • Measure how the marketplace is used (page views, conversion, error tracking).
  • Detect and prevent fraud.

You can control cookies in your browser settings. Disabling them may break sign-in, cart, and checkout.

6. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards: TLS for data in transit, encrypted storage at rest, strict access controls, and regular reviews of our infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure — please use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication where offered.

7. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as we need it: account data while your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards for legal, tax, and dispute reasons. Order records are typically retained for 7 years to meet bookkeeping requirements. Marketing preferences are kept until you withdraw consent.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain uses. To exercise any of these, email support@ekomarketinternational.com from the address on your account, or use the contact form.

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), or your local data-protection regulator if you’re outside Nigeria.

9. International transfers

EKO is operated from Nigeria, but we use service providers based in the EU, the UK, and the US. When data crosses borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards (standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions, or equivalent measures) to keep it protected.

10. Children's privacy

The marketplace is not intended for users under 18. We don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced by email and on the marketplace. The "last updated" date at the top of the page always reflects the current version.
